In addition, these upgrades aim to boost the company’s refining capacity and improve fuel quality, thereby supporting India’s growing energy needs. Furthermore, Indian Oil to Complete Refinery Expansions on time will strengthen domestic fuel production and help meet rising demand efficiently.

Panipat and Gujarat Refinery Upgrades

The Panipat refinery in Haryana is being modernized and expanded from 15 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA) to 25 MMTPA. The expansion includes installing advanced technology to produce cleaner fuels that comply with stricter environmental norms.

Similarly, Indian Oil’s Gujarat refinery, one of its largest, is increasing capacity from 13.7 MMTPA to about 18 MMTPA. The upgrade will improve efficiency and output, helping meet the rising demand for high-quality fuels in the region. Indian Oil to Complete Refinery Expansions will also enhance the supply chain and reduce dependence on fuel imports.

Supporting India’s Energy and Environmental Goals

These refinery expansions form part of Indian Oil’s strategy to enhance India’s energy security by increasing domestic refining capabilities. With these upgrades, the company expects to reduce reliance on imports and produce more value-added products such as petrol, diesel, and petrochemicals.

Moreover, the projects align with India’s commitment to cleaner energy. By producing fuels with lower emissions, Indian Oil is contributing to the nation’s efforts to reduce air pollution and meet international environmental standards.

The total investment in these projects runs into thousands of crores of INR, and IOCL officials remain confident of completing the expansions by the target deadline.
