In the run-up to the upcoming Kadi and Visavadar Assembly by-elections, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has announced its official candidates. Gujarat AAP President Isudan Gadhvi declared the name of Jagdishbhai Chavda as the party’s candidate for the Kadi constituency. Meanwhile, Gopal Italia will contest from the Visavadar constituency.
Isudan Gadhvi expressed confidence, stating, “AAP will fight strongly in both Kadi and Visavadar and mark victory. AAP’s impact will be clearly felt.”
The Kadi Assembly seat fell vacant following the demise of sitting MLA Karshan Solanki, while the Visavadar seat was vacated after Bhupat Bhayani resigned from AAP and joined the BJP.
The Election Commission has scheduled the voting on 19th June 2025, with the results to be declared on 23rd June 2025.
In light of these elections, the Gujarat State Election Commission has temporarily postponed the scheduled Gram Panchayat elections in constituencies that fall within Kadi and Visavadar. These include Kadi and Jotana talukas in Mehsana district and Visavadar, Bhesan, Junagadh (rural), and Bagasara taluka of Amreli district. A revised election program for these Panchayats will be announced later.
The by-elections and Panchayat postponement have been formally acknowledged in a letter from the Chief Electoral Officer dated 29th May 2025.
